The sea is a resource for wellbeing. Oily fish is a natural superfood. Science leads the way.
The Longevity Nutrition Program is built on these three pillars. Developed by Delicius in collaboration with INRC (the Italian National Institute for Cardiovascular Research), the project promotes a balanced, informed approach to eating that supports cardiovascular health.
First presented by Delicius at Be Blue – The Sea Conference 2025, the Longevity Nutrition Program is more than a campaign. It’s a programme of food education, prevention and sustainability, centred on mackerel and sardines. These small oily fish are rich in Omega-3 and represent an accessible, responsible and high-quality approach to nutrition.
A project to live better, for longer
The Longevity Nutrition Program is based on a simple idea: help people take care of themselves through what they eat, every day.
Through its collaboration with INRC, the programme translates scientific research into practical tools for consumers, with a focus on prevention, cardiovascular health and an active lifestyle.
From July 2025, throughout the summer and during Prevention Month (October), selected Delicius mackerel and sardine packs will feature dedicated packaging and an interactive QR code. This will give access to:
- personalised nutrition plans tailored to different life stages
- advice and insights on heart, brain and metabolic health
- editorial content developed and validated by INRC
- recipes, videos and educational materials designed to help integrate oily fish into everyday diets
From science to the table
The Longevity Nutrition Program is rooted in long-term research. In 2012, Delicius promoted the Cardiosepa study with the University of Parma. The study showed that regular consumption of oily fish significantly increases Omega-3 levels in the blood, with positive effects on vascular health.
With the support of INRC, these findings are now translated into accessible educational tools, strengthening the link between business and science.
A new perspective on tinned fish
As Irene Rizzoli, CEO of Delicius, explains, the Longevity Nutrition Program also represents a cultural shift.
We want to change how people see tinned fish. It should no longer be viewed as a commodity, but as a functional food with real value. Oily fish is a natural superfood: accessible, sustainable and rich in proven benefits. As a company, we feel responsible for making these benefits better known and for building a shared value path together with retailers.
In dialogue with sustainability
The project reflects Delicius’ commitments as a Benefit Company. It promotes a broad approach to sustainability that includes:
- food education to support more informed lifestyles
- greater use of less exploited, more sustainable fish species
- the promotion of wellbeing and prevention, in line with UN Sustainable Development Goal 3
A central theme at Be Blue
The Longevity Nutrition Program was also the central theme of the fourth edition of Be Blue – The Sea Conference, held in Milan on 5 June 2025. The event brought together researchers, doctors, nutrition experts and retail representatives, all working towards making longevity an accessible and sustainable way of life.
A new food culture, for people and for the sea
With the Longevity Nutrition Program, Delicius encourages people to rediscover the nutritional, environmental and cultural value of oily fish, and to adopt an approach to eating that supports the body, the mind and the planet, every day.
